When Nicaragua Erupts (Gently): The Vegafina Vulcano Review

A Bold Yet Balanced Smoke from the Land of Fire

Big Ring Energy

Some cigars whisper. The Vegafina Nicaragua Vulcano announces itself with a 56-ring gauge and the confidence of a cigar that knows it’s going to be noticed. It’s a parejo-shaped, Nicaraguan pur, which means that  every leaf, from wrapper to filler, hails from the volcanic soils of Nicaragua. So yes, you can expect heat, but the refined and slow-burning kind.

Meet the Vulcano

This cigar is part of Vegafina’s Nicaragua line, designed to offer a deeper, more flavorful experience compared to the original, milder blends the brand is known for. At 56 x 4.75inches, it’s squat but substantial, like a compact muscle car built for flavour rather than speed.

From the moment you cut the cap, there’s a richness in the air with  notes of dried fruit, cedar, and just a trace of that sweet, spicy something that Nicaragua does best.

Flavor Notes: Controlled Eruption

  • Pre-light: A sweet spice aroma, mixed with raisin and wood- enticing without being overpowering.
  • First third: A warm start. Earth and cinnamon upfront, with a touch of red pepper that simmers rather than spikes.
  • Second third: The Vulcano settles into creamy leather and roasted nuts. It’s smoother than you’d expect from something with such a fiery name.
  • Final third: A deep finish of espresso, black pepper, and toasted oak. A bold exit, but never harsh.

Smoke Time & Pairing

You’re looking at about 60- 70 minutes of slow-burning flavor. I paired mine with a dark rum on the rocks, but a spiced old fashioned would also bring out the Vulcano’s warm undertones beautifully.

Final Thoughts: Power Meets Poise

The Vegafina Nicaragua Vulcano is a pleasant surprise. It looks like it’s going to slap you around, but instead, it leans in with warmth and complexity. For fans of Nicaraguan cigars, this one offers a luxurious draw with a distinct volcanic signature- flavorful, full-bodied, and unexpectedly smooth.

Would I recommend it? Absolutely.
Would I light another on a stormy evening with a jazz record playing? In a heartbeat.
